Dewey’s is excited to announce that we’ll be carrying the original
Astro Pop, the worlds’ longest standing lollipop. After disappearing mysteriously from the
market, Dewey’s will be bringing this iconic candy back to our store starting this week.
Astro Pops are packed with taste, not to mention great childhood memories for so many people.
The year was 1963 and Americans were obsessed with two things: the
Beatles, and the Race-To-Space. It would be six more years until we reached the moon, but we did get the Astro Pop-
“…two rocket
scientists working on
the space program in El
Segundo, CA decided to
quit their jobs and create the Astro Pop, modeling the pop after a three-stage
rocket. They built special equipment to speed up the production of the
cone-wrappers at high-speed as well as other equipment they made by hand. Astro
Pops® were very unusual to manufacture because the cone-wrapper became the mold
for the candy. Hot candy was poured directly into the wrapper, then a paper
stick was added and capped off with a layer of wax.”
And history was never the same! Millions were sold and the candy was so popular it inspired
apparel, toys, a soda, video games, and even art!
Dewey’s will be
carrying the original, individual 3-flavor Astro Pop. And for those who just can’t get enough of this childhood favorite Dewey's can also offer 24-pack cases. We’re expecting these to literally fly off
the shelves, so feel free to contact us ahead of time.
